This blog is a little different this week. I wanted to share a few Halloween themed smart treats! It is so easy for us to grab the cookies or candy for our children on Halloween. However there are many fun and healthy alternatives.
Before we get started with some healthy treats, here area a few tips to make your Halloween a Spine Friendly one:
1. Hydration: make sure you and your children are drinking plenty of water when out trick or treating. Remember that water supports spinal discs and joints.
2. Moderation: you can have tasty sugary treats in moderation. But avoid excessive sugar intake, this contributes to inflammation.
3. Physical Activity: Remember to keep up your activity, like pumpkin carving a Halloween dance parties. Physical activity keeps joints active and strong!
Now on for a few alternative treats this season:
1. Spooky Veggie Platter- add assorted raw veggies and hummus (chickpea dip) and then arrange on a platter to resemble a skeleton, you can use the dip for the skull and joint connections. Benefits: remember that vegetables have essential vitamins and minerals that support immune function.
2. Boo-nana Ghosts- Cut Bananas in half and then using. Insert a Popsicle stick into each banana half, and then dip in white chocolate or yogurt dip. Then quickly press mini chocolate chips for eyes and mouth to form a ghost face on bananas. Benefits: bananas are rich in potassium and supports muscle and nerve function.
3. Apple Monster Mouths- Spread peanut or almond butter on one side of a apple slice, and then press mini marshmallows into the nut butter to create teeth. Benefits: apples provide fiber and vit. C.
I hope you enjoyed this weeks blog and have fun this halloween season!
